Mark McKinnon and Obama

Mark McKinnon said a long time ago that he would drop out of the McCain campaign if McCain had to face Obama in the general.

Here's his quote to NPR: "I have met Barack Obama. I have read his book. I like him a great deal. I disagree with him on very fundamental issues but it would be uncomfortable for me and it would be bad for the McCain campaign."

My first reaction is: baloney. Here's one interpretation: McKinnon knows McCain's goose is cooked if he faces Obama, so he creates a false reason for abandoning the sinking ship. Here's another: the quote was last summer, at a time when Hillary seemed much more inevitable, and perhaps was meant to bolster Obama. However, the quote was repeated recently. So it seems like he meant it. But he hasn't quit yet.
