Here it is, very simply--the Democrat strategy against McCain: "A vote for McCain is a vote for a third Bush term." There's a lot to go on. The two were bitter rivals in 2000, but since then have come close together. On the war, campaign finance, and immigration, their positions have been indistinguishable. McCain had better start the distancing process. Ironically, I think it started March 5 when McCain got Bush's endorsement. Do it right away to get it over with, I think was the thinking on this move. I was surprised when they appeared for photos though, but I guess you have to do that.
